يعتبر ميدان وحي جاكسون أحد معالم منطقة غرب الخرطوم والتي لم تكن معروفة بشكل واسع، غير أن ترحيل المواقف من منطقة وسط الخرطوم جعل اسم الحي عبارة على كل لسان.. وعلى الرغم من أن تسمية هذا الميدان ب «جاكسون» لا يعرفها الكثيرون لكن ومن خلال البحث والتقصي في المعلومات التي حصلت عليها (الإنتباهة) حيث وضحت جليًا أن حقيقة تسمية هذا الميدان باسم جاكسون وعلى حسب أقوال الذين تحدثوا أكدوا أنه وفي عهد الحكم الثنائي كان هناك شخص بريطاني الجنسية كان يسكن في تلك المنطقة وسمى هذا الحي باسمه (جاكسون) وقد التقينا أول المتحدثين حول شخصية جاكسون وهو المواطن أحمد نور محمد والذي يعتبر من الشخصيات القديمة والذين عاصروا عهد الإنجليز وقال إن جاكسون باشا هو رجل إنجليزي وكان مهندس البلدية، وقد عمل مهندسًا للمساحة في عام (1920م) وقام بأول خطة سكنية في السودان من النيل إلى السكة الحديد (ملك حر) ووصف أحمد الخرطوم بالتفصيل.. وقال من ناحية الغرب شارع القصر (الجمهورية الحالي) والذي كان يسمى في السابق بشارع الملكة فكتوريا، أما الخرطوم شرق تقع شرق شارع فكتوريا وهي تمتد من فكتوريا حتى جامعة الخرطوم وتنتهي بالسكة الحديد بالكبري الذي أُنشئ في عهد الرئيس إبراهيم عبود عام (1958م). محمد إسحاق نشر في الانتباهة يوم 21 - 12 - 2012
